Building a Healthy Community – Redefining the Community

Society for community

Building healthy community starts with you. Look at the community you serve, a community of people with like interest and needs. Have you enabled them to talk, to share what they know and need to know, to support each other to do business together and socialize? You are probably working with a group of people who have shared concerns.

The questions before us  are about everyday life; will there be an adequate number of law enforcement officers patrolling our neighborhoods to keep us safe.

Our program seek to start and expand public public forum process by offering numerous  small gatherings at convenient dates and times, giving the opportunity to voice individual opinions, and educate citizens on complex issues.

Above all, we no longer need companies, institutions and governments to organize us. We have the tools to organize ourselves. We can share and sort out our knowledge and behaviour. We can communicate and come together in an instant. We also have new ethics and attitudes that spring from this new organization and change society in ways we cannot yet see, with openness, generosity, collaboration and efficiency.

We are increasingly using the Internets tissue to leap over borders – this is the new world order.

Terrorist Attack at Westgate Mall – A Security System Lapse

Laxity of the security organ?

The terrorism attack carried out at the Westgate Mall on September 21st, 2013 is a pointer to  laxity in the security system.

The attackers of the Westgate Mall in the city of Nairobi managed to get into the country, made their way to the Mall, Killed more than 60 people and injuring about 170 others. They caused untold damage counting to billions of Kenya shillings.

These murderers easily gained access to the sprawling Mall carrying their lethal weapons with them, completely undetected. Thanks to the security clearance system at the Mall entrance.

It appears that none of the security men at the entrance paid any attention to any unusual behavior among the shoppers when entering – lesson number one is to train to train them to be extra vigilant.

Security at country borders

What about the security clearance system at the country borders – which seems to be tragically broken?  A crack which may allow many unwanted folks slipping through.

These attackers are not just threatening our national security, but our personal security as well – one can tell this by the number of innocent citizens who left their home on that tragic morning to go shopping but never to return home again.

Security problem

It appears that the whole security system is in shambles – do our security people gather enough intelligence and classify more information in the name of protecting its citizens? Is there much followup after such incidences?  Can the security men/women asses and act on behavioral signs of an insider threat?

Are our borders or entry points too porous . Do we need to do more , especially when it comes to detecting in-house threats? Is there a well integrated means to gather, evaluate and disseminate the wide range of behavioral indicators that could signal an insider threat?

Safaricom Excels – Will the Company Go the Google way?

Business (Photo credits:

Safaricom excellence, what next?

Safaricom is a leading company in this region in the business of mobile operating system –  internet on mobile and affordable broadband internet – has the widest 3G network in Kenya.

Being the most innovative company in this region, it is best known for pioneering the largest mobile money transfer in the world.

Another first for the company is the Mshwari innovation – the revolutionary banking product for Mpesa customers.

Safaricom executives understand the change brought to us by internet. That is why they are successful and powerful – running this company, which many will agree as being the finest in the region.

That is why in my opinion, a smart response to all this change is to ask – what will Safaricom do next? Will it move the Google way?

I am of the opinion that Safaricom have overshot the decrees ” it is best to do one thing really well before moving to another – this is typically mimicking what Google does.

Finally I believe that Safaricom should be our model for thinking in new ways because it is so singularly successful. Examine how Safaricom think is affecting our lives and the future generation – how the lives of the rural population have been transformed – those who could not access banking service can, now.

Examine the new power structure to our economy and society that Safaricom has caused.

Few words on Google

Google has been dubbed the fastest growing company in the world, (Times of London. One of the most successful ubiquitous and increasingly strange company on the planet.

Google is in the search business (being the leading search engine in the world) – in the online advertising business. But it is also in the mobile operating system business, the web browser business, the free email business, the online map business and many more.

Will Safaricom go the Google way in the future?

Effects of Legalizing Marijuana

Is legalization of marijuana becoming a new world order?

In August, 2013, a group of youth in the central province of Kenya petitioned the government to legalize the use of marijuana in this country. The group which stated that they were fighting for their rights argued that marijuana has some medical benefits for them.

Whether that is the main reason why they are calling for the legalization of the stuff is anybody’s guess. But consumption of the drug has been known to be  for its psychoactive and physiological effects, which can include heightened mood or euphoria, relaxation, and increase in appetite. It is also known that unwanted side effects sometimes can include a decrease in short term memory, dry mouth, reddening of eyes and feeling of anxiety.

The reasons given to support legalization of the drug, said to be no more pernicious than alcohol or tobacco, and that corruption and crime associated with the drug trade can be significantly reduced by legalizing it is not enough.

It is obvious that legalizing the use of the drug will encourage many more people, especially the youth to try using it. This can increase the probability that users will turn to harder drugs.

The psychoactive and the physiological effects when the drug is consumed, and other various mental disorders are of more greater concern to the public than any other single reason.

Please say what you think about this argument I have put.
